BOSTON, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team claimed a thrilling, 22-19 decision over Northeastern University in their New England Rugby Football Union opener on Saturday afternoon. Down by nine points with under ten minutes to play, the Polar Bears rallied to improve to 2-2 overall this season.

Bowdoin absorbed early pressure from Northeastern in the early going and bounced back strong, controlling the possession for the majority of the first half. The Polar Bears were able to tally a pair of tries, courtesy of Loryn Fridie and Helen White to carry a 10-5 advantage into the break.

Northeastern bounced back with 14 unanswered points to take a 19-10 lead into the final ten minutes. Becky Stevens blocked a kick and returned it for a try to cut into the lead and Bowdoin took advantage of a late push downfield as Marketia James, subbing for an injured Dani McAvoy in the second half, collected a loose ball and dove into the endzone just before the end of regulation. Stevens convered on the try to seal the 22-19 win.

Bowdoin's "B" side also picked up a win, 12-10, over Northeastern. Rebecca Silva scored and converted a try while Sara Davenport also found the endzone in the victory.
