BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team
dominated from the opening draw on their way to a 17-3 victory over
Colorado College on Saturday afternoon. The 16th-ranked Polar Bears
improve to 7-4 this season while the Tigers drop to 7-4.
The Polar Bears held the Tigers scoreless in the opening period,
racing out to a 11-0 lead at intermission. Katy Dissinger got the
Polar Bears started with three goals in the first 3:34, with Katie
Stewart, Katie Herter and Liz Clegg each scoring a pair of
first-half goals. Bowdoin added two more shortly after intermission
to push the lead to 13 goals before Gioia Garden found the back of
the net six minutes into the second half to put the Tigers on the
board.
Clegg finished with three goals and an assist to pace the Polar
Bears, while Dissinger added three tallies as well. McKenna Teague
had a goal and two assists and five draw controls for Bowdoin, who
collected 20 caused turnovers as a team, led by Stewart's four.
Tara Connolly stopped three shots without allowing a score in the
first period before giving way to Alexandra Brown, who stopped two
shots against three goals in the second half.
Abby Fink collected a season-high 20 saves, including several
strong stops early in the first half to keep the Tigers close.
Garden had two goals for Colorado College while Maggie Defanti had
one goal and two caused turnovers.
Bowdoin held a 47-11 edge in shots for the game and converted of
17 of 18 clears. The Tigers went just 9 of 26 in clearing and
committed 32 turnovers in the loss.
