HARTFORD, Conn. - A furious late rally by the Bowdoin College
women's lacrosse team fell short in a 14-9 loss at Trinity on
Saturday afternoon. The ninth-ranked Bantams improve to 3-0 while
the Polar Bears drop their third-straight to fall to 1-3.
Caitlin Irvine scored four goals and an assist while Kristin
Phelps added four tallies for the Bantams. Bowdoin was led by two
goals apiece from Katie Stewart, Liz Clegg, Carolyn Gorajek and
McKenna Teague.
Trinity held Bowdoin scoreless in the first half and until 4:19
into the second frame, mounting a 9-0 lead in the process. The
Polar Bears got on the board with a Clegg goal, only to see Trinity
roll off three more tallies to take a 12-1 lead with 19:34 to
play.
Bowdoin replied with a five-goal surge, bookended by Teague goals,
to close within 12-6 with 8:06 on the clock. Phelps shut the door
with back-to-back goals five minutes apart, as Bowdoin scored three
times in a 1:06 span late in the contest to make it a 14-9
final.
Tara Connolly stopped 11 shots in net for the Polar Bears while
Stephanie Fisher made 10 stops for Trinity.
