BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team led
from start-to-finish, holding off Endicott 12-8 on Wednesday
evening. The Polar Bears improve to 3-2 overall this season while
the Gulls drop to 2-2.
The Polar Bears jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes
and extended their advantage to 5-1 later in the period as five
different players found the back of the net. Endicott used a 3-1
run in the final four minutes of the period and cut the gap to 6-4
on a free position goal from Rebecca Bushnell with nine seconds
remaining.
Bowdoin got two quick goals from Katy Dissinger and Ingrid
Oelschlager immediately after intermission, but Endicott answered
with a 3-1 surge that trimmed the Bowdoin lead to 9-7 with 17:01
left. Later in the period, Endicott had a chance to cut the lead to
a single goal, but Alex Pearce's low shot was saved by Steph
Collins-Finn which started a Bowdoin break downfield. Moments
later, Dissinger netted a free position score that pushed the lead
back to three goals with 10 minutes to play.
Pearce led all scorers with four goals for Endicott while Valerie
Feldman scored twice. Molly Hamel made eight saves in goal for the
Gulls. Bowdoin was led by three goals from Dissinger, who also had
three groundballs. Liz Clegg, Katie Stewart and Oelschlager had two
scores apiece. Clegg also had six draw controls for the Polar
Bears, who held a 10-1 edge in draws in the second period.
