BRUNSWICK, Maine - Trinity's Rachel Romanowsky scored five goals
and added three assists as the Bantam women's lacrosse team held
off Bowdoin on Saturday, 13-12. The Bantams are ranked 14th in the
latest IWLCA poll while the Polar Bears stand 20th in Division
III.
Trinity never trailed Saturday, scoring three goals in the opening
7:21 to take an early advantage. Romanowsky scored three times in
the first half, extending their lead to 6-2 with 10:33 remaining in
the first period. Bowdoin rolled off goals in a 1:08 span, courtesy
of Liz Clegg, Katie Stewart and McKenna Teague to trim the gap to
6-5 with 2:44 left before intermission. Trinity's Jen Calver was
able to find the back of the net shortly before the half to give
the visitors a 7-5 lead at the break.
Trinity scored three straight goals to open the second period as
Carrie Disa, Romanowsky and Calver to extend the lead to 10-5 just
3:14 into the half. Bowdoin responded with a trio of scores from
Teague, Stewart and Katie Herter to cut the lead to 10-8. The Polar
Bears were able to cut the lead to a single goal on three
occasions, 11-10, 12-11 and 13-12, with under 10 minutes to play,
but could not find the equalizer as Trinity won a draw control with
a minute to go and was able to run out the clock.
Clegg and Teague scored three goals apiece for the Polar Bears, who
got 15 saves from Stephanie Collins-Finn. Trinity received two
goals apiece from Calver and Caitlin Irvine in addition to
Romanowsky's five. Gina Dinallo stopped 13 shots for the Bantams,
who held a 36-29 edge in shots and 16-11 lead in draw controls.
