BOX SCORE
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team
stayed hot, getting a pair of goals from Katie Herter to defeat
Trinity 4-2 on Friday night for their fifth-straight victory. The
Polar Bears stand a 8-10-1 overall this season (6-8-1 NESCAC) while
the Bantams fall to 12-7-2 (7-5-1). The win streak is the longest
for the program since they claimed five straight in February of
2006.
Bowdoin senior Samantha Stewart scored 2:31 into the contest to
give the Polar Bears a quick 1-0 lead. In the second, Bowdoin went
on a goal-scoring binge, netting three goals in a four-minute span.
Herter scored two consecutive before sophomore Michaela Calnan
added another to put the Polar Bears up 4-0.
Trinity did not go down easy, as junior Britney McKenna answered
Calnan's goal a minute later to take some of the momentum from the
Polar Bears and bring the score to 4-1 before the final period of
play. Halfway through the third, sophomore Jill Roloff scored a
short-handed goal to bring the score to 4-2, but Bowdoin goaltender
Sage Santangelo made the lead stand, stopping 20 shots for the
game. The Polar Bears out-shot Trinity 35-22 for the game.
