BRUNSWICK, Maine - Seven different players scored to lead the
Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team to their third-straight
victory, 7-0 over Colby on Friday evening at Sidney Watson Arena.
The Polar Bears (4-2-1) are unbeaten in their last four contests
(3-0-1) while the Mules (1-3-3) are 0-3-3 in their last six
games.
The Polar Bears came out strong and struck first at 9:33 of the
first period, as Al Chlebeck took advantage of a two-on-one and put
her own rebound past Colby goalie Loni Pisani. The Polar Bears
struck again 17 seconds later when Shelagh Merrill beat Pisani with
a wrist shot to the top right corner at 9:52. No more than two
minutes later Bowdoin make it 3-0 when Jill Campbell easily
maneuvered her way into Colby's offensive zone and beat
Pisani between the pads at 11:08.
Bowdoin found the back of the net again halfway through the second
period when Maria Nicolais fired a shot from the blue line and
Katie Herter pounced on the rebound at 11:17 earning the fourth
tally of the game. Midway through the third, Shana Natelson
strategically rifled a shot past Piasni, earning her first of the
season, bringing the Polar Bears to 5-0. Stephanie Ludy and
Nicolais added third period goals to seal the win.
Bowdoin's Kalya Lessard earned her collegiate shutout with
11 saves while Pisani swept aside 41 in defeat for Colby. Nicolais,
Dominique Lozzi and Michaela Calnan all had two assists for the
hosts. The seven-goal margin of victory for Bowdoin is the largest
over their Waterville rivals since 2004, when they collected an 8-0
victory.
