MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey
team iced Bowdoin, 3-1, in the second day of their annual
post-holiday tournament on Sunday. The Hawks improve to 8-3-1 this
season as the Polar Bears dip to 1-5-0.
The Hawks hit the scoreboard first as Maria Dougherty took a
pass from Kelsey Johnson and Liz Burg to put Saint Anselm up 1-0
just over a minute in the second period. Over five minutes later,
Kathleen Twomey's game-winner was assisted by freshman Aly Zappen
and senior Bianca DeSantis.
Bowdoin struck back when senior forward Scooter Walsh redirected a
shot from teammate Jill Campbell. Junior defenseman Shana Natelson
was also awarded an assist on the goal.
In the third period the Hawks put the game out of reach on a goal
by Burg assisted by Johnson and defenseman Jamie Comrie. Hawk
goalie Amy Zappen finished the game with 23 saves in the victory,
while Polar Bear netminder Sage Santangelo had 38 saves in the
losing effort.
