NEW LONDON, N.H. - Despite a game-high 16 points from Kyle
Jackson, the Bowdoin College men's basketball team saw their
five-game winning streak come to an end in a 63-57 loss to
Colby-Sawyer College Thursday evening. The Polar Bears fall to 7-2
this season as the Chargers (6-2) snap a three-game losing skid to
Bowdoin that dated back to 2004.
In a hotly contested first half that featured 14 lead changes, the
Chargers were able to carry a slim three point lead into the locker
room at the half. With Colby-Sawyer up 33-23 with less than five
minutes to go in the first 20 minutes, the Polar Bears went on an
8-0 run to cut the deficit to two. Senior Matt Lemieux added on
free throw to give the Chargers a 34-31 lead at the half. Freshman
Will Bardaglio led the Chargers in the first half connecting on
three three-pointers. Colby-Sawyer shot 52% from the floor in the
first half. Bowdoin was paced by 10 points from senior Kyle
Jackson.
After a layup by senior Tim Lane brought the Polar Bears within
one at 34-33, the Chargers went on a 7-2 run and the would lead the
rest of the way. Bowdoin freshman Will Hanley kept the game close
by scoring eight of his 12 points in the second half. Colby-Sawyer
junior Jon Chaloux was able to knock down some free throws to
secure the game down the stretch. He scored all of his nine points
in the second half.
Playing well for the Polar Bears was Darian Reid-Sturgis who had
six points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Jackson was 7-18 from the
floor and finished with a game-high 16 points. Bowdoin had three
players foul out in the game (Lane, Hanley, Mike Hauser) but
squandered their own chances by hitting only 11-of-21 from the
charity stripe in the loss.
