SALEM, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team shot
64% from the field in the second half to pull away in a 72-39
victory over Western New England College on Friday afternoon.
Bowdoin (2-0) advances to Saturday's championship game at 7:00 pm
against the winner of the other first round game between Salem
State and Wheelock College. WNEC (0-2) will play in Saturday's
third place game at 3:00 pm.
Both teams struggled offensively in the opening period, as the
teams combined to hit just 16 of 60 shots in the first half. The
Polar Bears carried a slim 22-18 lead into intermission thanks to
six points apiece from Kyle Jackson and Tim Lane.
Lane sparked the Polar Bears in a red-hot second-half that saw
the senior forward connect on all eight shots from the field,
scoring 17 points en route to a career-high 23. Bowdoin dominated
on the inside, out-rebounding WNEC 24-12 and finishing with a 49-32
edge for the contest.
Lane was the only played in double-digits for either squad, as
Bowdoin had 10 different players score. Jackson finished with nine
points and eight rebounds while Mark Phillips had nine points and
seven caroms.
