Kneiss Reaches Quarterfinals of NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Mark Kneiss of the Bowdoin men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship last week at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in California.
 
Tournament Highlights
  • Kneiss got off to a fast start, winning a pair of straight-set matches on day one to advance to the quarterfinals and earn automatic All-American recognition.
  • He opened with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dominic Anderson of Redlands before bouncing Michael Melnikov of Swarthmore, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the round of eight.
  • In the quarters, Kneiss fought hard but eventually lost to Kael Shah of Denison 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Shah would advance all the way to the national final.
  • The individual nationals appearance was the first for Kneiss, who ends a fantastic campaign with a record of 19-7 (13-4 in dual matches) exclusively playing at #1 for the Polar Bears and number ten ranking in the final Division III ITA singles poll.
