Swimming & Diving Jumps Into 2025-26 Season At MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2025-26 season at a dual meet with MIT on Saturday.

Both the men and women suffered head-to-head losses to the Engineers.

Women's Meet Highlights

The Polar Bears opened the meet with a second place performance in the 400 medley relay with a team consisting of all underclassmen. Ellie Denney, Adeline Wongso, Harper Stevenson, and Nina Fearon combined for a 3:58.77.
Denney began her college career with a pair of individual second place performances in the 50 free (24.66) and the 100 free (54.01).
Riley Kopp opened her Bowdoin career with a third place finish in the 1000 (10:57.48).
Harper Stevenson finished second in both the 100 fly (59.28) and the 200 IM (2:12.62).
Florence Millet finished the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.58 and a third place touch.
Ursula von Goeler captured podium finishes in both diving events. Von Goeler finished third in the 1 meter with 263.48 points and climbed to second in the 3 meter (250.20).
Bowdoin capped the meet with a third place finish in the 200 free relay. Adeline Wongso, Nina Fearon, Ava Harrington, and Denney went 1:39.35.

Men's Meet Highlights

David Xu had a stellar start to his Polar Bear career with three top-three finishes. Xu finished second in the 200 fly (1:54.96) and third in both the 200 backstroke (1:55.24) and the 200 IM (1:57.83).
Jack Tran earned runner-up in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.22.
Bowdoin got a pair of third places finishes in the longer races as Colby Whitney went 10:09.99 in the 1000 and Phil Bianco swam a 4:51.84 in the 500.
The Polar Bears closed the meet with a second place finish in the 200 free relay. Hayden Mallory, Amadou Sall, Henry Peters, and Tran swam a 1:26.56.

The Maine State Meet takes place at Colby on December 5-6.
