WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin men's swimming and diving team shattered 13 school records en route to a seventh-place finish at the 2026 NESCAC Championship over the weekend.
The Polar Bears concluded the weekend with 768 points, sitting between Hamilton (800.5) and Middlebury (702). Williams came away with the NESCAC title.
Meet Highlights
- Bowdoin blew through 13 program records over the span of four days. The Polar Bears opened the meet with a record-breaking time of 6:45.94 in the 800 free relay to finish eighth. Raphael Grand'Pierre, Jaran Depew, Getchell Gibbons, and David Xu combined for the points.
- The 200 free relay team of Grand'Pierre, Micah Sher, Henry Peters, and Jack Tran took second with a school record time of 1:19.59.
- Tran had a standout meet for the Polar Bears with three top-three individual finishes and four new program records. Tran won the 50 fly with a time of 21.47 after posting a 21.43 in prelims. Gaffney McDonough also qualified for the finals and finished eighth with a 22.29. Gibbons swam in the consolation finals, finishing 15th, with a 22.90.
- Chase Shapiro tied for 11th in the 500 free, swimming to a 4:35.91.
- Grand'Pierre set a new school record in his 10th place finish in the 50 free (20.49), but the record did not hold for long as Tran swam a 20.27 to earn fourth in the finals. Peters matched the 20.49 with his sixth-place swim in the finals.
- Tran, Peters, Depew, and Grand'Pierre out together a 3:20.72 in the 400 medley relay to earn eighth.
- Tran, Sall Amadou, McDonough, and Peters pulled a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a 1:28.99. Tran set a new school record for the 50 backstroke in his leadoff leg (22.16).
- Chase Shapiro broke a pair of school records with his seventh-place time in the 1000 (9:22.08) and fourth-place finish in the 1650 (15:46.69). Phil Bianco was 11th in the 1000 (9:32.44) and Colby Whitney was 12th in the 1650 (16:16.01).
- Grand'Pierre earned a B-cut with his program-best 48.51 in the 100 fly finals to earn fourth.
- In the 100 backstroke, Tran broke the school record twice and set a new mark at 48.87, finishing fourth.
- Grand'Pierre had a fifth-place showing in the 100 free with a 44.49.
- Depew set a new program record in the 200 butterfly, finishing seventh overall and posting a 1:48.95. Xu was 12th in the event (1:50.74).
- Peters finished 15th in the consolation finals of the 50 breaststroke with a 26.14.
- Xu swam in the consolation finals of the 400 IM and earned 11th with a 4:02.69.
- Owen Weller qualified for the consolation finals of the 200 backstroke with a 1:52.16 and swam a 1:53.35 to earn 16th.
- Bowdoin closed out the meet with a final school record-breaking performance. Tran, Sher, Gibbons, and Grand'Pierre finished third in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:58.82.
