Kneiss Wins ITA New England Men's Tennis Crown

MEDFORD, Mass. – Bowdoin senior Mark Kneiss became the third Polar Bear in program history to win the ITA New England Championship, claiming the singles crown this weekend at Tufts University. With the win, Kneiss advances to the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., on October 16-18.
 
Weekend Highlights
  • Seeded first in the singles bracket, Kneiss cruised into the round of 16 with a pair of straight-set wins before winning a three-setter to reach the semifinals where he defeated teammate Andrew Mendelson (6-3, 6-1).
  • After a straight-set win against a Babson semifinalist, Kneiss played Amherst's Andreas Sillaste in the final. Kneiss wore him down in the final, taking a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory to claim the crown.
  • Kneiss is the third Polar Bear to win the ITA New England singles title, joining Tristan Bradley and Luke Trinka.
  • Other strong performances by Polar Bears this weekend included Mendelson winning three matches to reach the quarterfinals. Kiran Garapati won four matches to advance to the semifinal round before falling to Sillaste.
  • Garapati and Simon Catanzaro teamed to reach the semifinals of the doubles bracket, winning a trio of matches before bowing out.
