BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin sophomore safety
Ferris Collins (Milton, Mass.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week.
Collins sealed the Polar Bears' first win of the season with a pair of fourth quarter interceptions against the Cardinals on Saturday. Collins' interception with under seven minutes left in the contest led to a Bowdoin score pushing the Polar Bears' lead to 25-17. The sophomore's second interception of the quarter came with 2:41 remaining in the contest.
In addition to eight tackles, Collins also forced a first quarter fumble deep in Bowdoin territory that was recovered by the Polar Bears. The Polar Bears' defensive unit held the Cardinals, who entered the game averaging 30.1 points per game, to a season-low 17 points.
Bowdoin will return to action on Saturday at Whittier Field when they host Trinity at 1:00 p.m.
