BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin senior
Alex Grand'Pierre has been selected to represent Haiti as a member of their Olympic swim team at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
An accomplished swimmer for the Polar Bears, Grand'Pierre is a multi-time New England Small College Athletic Conference champion, an NCAA Division III All-American, and a Haitian record holder.
He qualified for the Paris Games in the 100-meter breaststroke following a first-place finish (1:02.39) at the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships (C.C.C.A.N.) in June. Competition for his event begins on July 27
th at the Paris Aquatics Centre.
Grand'Pierre is the current C.C.C.A.N. record holder in the 100 breaststroke and is the Haitian record holder in the 50, 100, and 200-meter breaststroke distances, as well as the 200 individual medley. He is the Bowdoin school record holder in the 50, 100, and 200-yard breaststroke distances and also owns the NESCAC conference record in the 50-yard breaststroke. This past winter, Grand'Pierre shined at the conference championships, winning the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke, and earned All-American honors in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Division III Championships.
The son of Haitian immigrants, Grand'Pierre continues a family tradition of Olympic appearances, following in the footsteps of his older sisters Naomy (2016 Rio Games), and Emilie (2020 Tokyo Games), who also attended Bowdoin. Alex also carries on the tradition of Polar Bear Olympians, joining the
impressive list of Olympic athletes who have attended Bowdoin. He becomes the fifth Summer Olympian in school history and ninth Olympian overall.
