BANGOR, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's cross country team won the state title for the first time since 2018 and the women's team finished as runners-up at the Maine State Championships Saturday.
The Polar Bear men finished with 27 points to edge out Bates (37) in the 12-team field. The Bowdoin women racked up 70 points, finishing only behind Bates (19) in their ten-team field.
Men's Meet Highlights
- Will Goddard led the way with a first place finish in the men's 8k (25:17.1), leading a group of six Polar Bears in the top ten.
- Brooks Peters was runner-up in 25:22.5 while first-years Seamus McDonough (26:19.2) and Matthew Servin (26:33.7) finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
- Sam Angevine was ninth (26:34.2) and Ben Bockmann was tenth (26:35.6) as Polar Bears dominated the top ten of the competition.
- The state crown is the first for the men's cross country team since their 2018 victory.
Women's Meet Highlights
- Despite missing some runners due to illness, Bowdoin rallied and totaled 70 points to sneak past Colby (75) for second place.
- Stephanie Chun enjoyed an outstanding race, covering the 6k course in 22:43.1 to take fourth place individually.
- Abby Mueller was tenth in 23:03.1 with Claire Wyman taking 14th in 23:36.2.
- Emma Barker (20th, 23:47.6), Delaney Jones (22nd, 23:50.0) and Andrea Becker (27th, 24:19.0) also all earned top-30 finishes for the Polar Bears.
