KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Bowdoin College sailing team earned a tenth-place finish in its final competition of the season, the Open Fleet Race National Championship, hosted at Kings Point on May 30-June 2.
The tenth place finish is the best-ever for Bowdoin in the Open Fleet Race division of ICSA Nationals, and is tied for the second-best showing for the Polar Bears overall across all divisions of nationals.
Championship Highlights
- The semifinals were a highly competitive event, with the top ten teams separated by just thirty points. The Polar Bears sailed well and were consistent, finishing tied for fourth place overall with 193 points to advance to the finals.
- Tom Hall, Hattie Slayton, Chris Lukens, Timmy Gee, and Isabelle Tsuchitori competed for the Polar Bears in the semifinals.
- The finals were limited by a lack of breeze which caused racing to start late in the day on Thursday and ended after sunset. Ten races were competed in the finals with lots of close racing. The Polar Bears finished 10th overall.
- Tom Hall, Hattie Slayton, Timmy Gee, Chris Lukens, Meg Gonzalez, Isabelle Tsuchitori, Jondall Norris, Holliss Hirsch, Sam Bonauto, and Tbo Anotonietti competed for the Polar Bears in the final rounds.
