Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Maine State Meet

 WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin women's swimming & diving team came away with third place out of eight teams at the Maine State Meet over the weekend.
 
Bowdoin compiled 707.50 points to finish behind UMaine and Bates.
 
Meet Highlights
  • The Polar Bears opened the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. Ella Martin, Carolyn Casey, Tatum Zupnik, and Shannon McCall combined for a 1:36.27 to set the tone for Bowdoin.
  • Bowdoin swimmers went two-three-four in the 500 free as Casey (5:05.11) and Harper Sevenson (5:05.81) finished on the podium just ahead of teammate Elizabeth Walsh (5:05.81).
  • Walsh found the top spot in the 1650 (17:36.76) and again in the 200 IM (2:07.63) to take second.
  • Zupnik bested the competition in the 50 yard butterfly (25.58) and again in the 50 free (23.69). Zupnik (57.32) was joined by Stevenson (58.34) to finish one-two in the 100 fly. Zupnik's final individual event was a 52.80 second-place finish in the 100 free.
  • Stevenson narrowly took second in the 200 free (1:56.00) to score more points for the Polar Bears.
  • Ella Martin ran away with a win in the 50 backstroke (25.62), outpacing the second-place finisher by nearly two seconds. Martin added another top finish in the 100 backstroke (57.32).
  • Bowdoin's entry into the mixed 400 medley relay finished second with a time of 3:37.50. Ella Martin, Dylan Zhang, Tatum Zupnik, and Steve Ward combined for the silver. No points were awarded for the event.
  • Martin, Stevenson, Zupnik, and McCall combined for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:45.40) to earn 34 points for the team.
  • Walsh (4:30.89) and Sydney Lillis (4:37.13) finished first and third respectively in the 400 IM.
  • Lillis demolished the competition in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:04.93, while second place finished in 2:08.54.
  • Bowdoin capped the even with a second-place result in the 400 free relay. Martin, Casey, Zupnik, and McCall combined for a 3:32.10.

  • The Polar Bears are off until 2024 with a meet at Middlebury on January 6.
