POLAR BEAR NOTES
Bowdoin is making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance but reached the third round for the first time in school history following an overtime win at William Smith last Sunday. The 22nd-ranked Polar Bears defeated Swarthmore (1-0) and William Smith (1-0) to advance out of the first weekend. The Polar Bears received an at-large bid thanks to finishing as runners-up in the NESCAC Tournament after a third-place finish in the nation's toughest conference this season. The NESCAC had five teams selected to the Division III Championship, the most of any league. Bowdoin had five players selected in All-NESCAC honors announced earlier this month. Greta Farkas and Jess Klein were recognized as First Team selections while Stephanie ChristiansonMorgan Smiley and Kyra Hacker netted Second Team choices. Bowdoin has never played NYU or Rochester, but has faced Tufts 58 times dating back to 1978. The teams are 9-9-2 in their last 20 meetings, but Bowdoin won their lone match this season, 3-2, on October 24 in Brunswick. Their only NCAA Tournament meeting came in 2000, a 1-1 tie that saw the Jumbos advance on penalty kicks.

AROUND THE REGIONAL
  • Rochester, undefeated at 14-0-5 (3-0-4 UAA) on the year, advanced to the sectional round with wins over Penn St. Behrend and No. 24 Misericordia in their first and second-round matchups. The 'Jackets won both contests by the final score of 2-1, scoring just over five minutes into the contest against the Lions, and a little over a minute in against the Cougars. The sixth-ranked 'Jackets wrapped up their first undefeated regular season in program history with a 2-1 win over Emory on Saturday, Nov. 4, capping off a regular season that saw multiple wins over ranked foes and five Yellowjackets earn All-UAA honors.
  • After finishing fourth in the UAA, No. 16 NYU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, hosting a regional pod with No. 3 Carnegie Mellon, Southern Virginia and Washington & Lee. The Violets beat Southern Virginia in their first-round contest, 3-0, before upsetting the Tartans, 2-0, in the regional final to advance to the sectional round. NYU sits at 14-2-2 (3-2-2 UAA) on the year heading into their matchup with the 'Jackets, led by one of the most potent offenses in the country. The Violets headed into the NCAA Tournament ranked in the top 10 of DIII in both goals and points, led by a trio of 10+ goal scorers.
  • The Jumbos head to Rochester after upsetting No. 15 The College of New Jersey in their second-round matchup, 3-0. The Jumbos, 9-5-4 (3-4-3 NESCAC), also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, falling to then-No. 6-ranked Amherst in the NESCAC Tournament. Tufts was sent to Ewing, NJ and the TCNJ regional, where they defeated Franklin and Marshall College, 2-1, in their first-round matchup before upsetting the Lions to advance to sectionals. As a team, the Jumbos netted 37 goals on 23 assists, averaging 2.06 goals per game, while allowing 24 scores, 1.33 per game. Tufts has taken 93 corners, and ranks in the top 75 of the country in both shots and shots per game, with 341 shots and 164 shots on goal this season.
