SCHEDULE CHANGE
Due to the tragic events in Lewiston last month, Bowdoin and Colby will not finish their season against each other for the first time since 1992, when the Polar Bears played Tufts in Galway, Ireland in late November. Every other year since 1976 the Polar Bears and Mules have played in the final game of the season. Bowdoin will host Trinity while Colby will host Middlebury on November 18 in rescheduled contests.
POLAR BEAR LEADERS
Bowdoin currently ranks third in the conference in total offense (408.4 yards/game) and total defense (322.4 yards/game) while boasting the top passing offense in the NESCAC (301.7 yards/game). The Polar Bear defense has been especially stingy against the run, holding opponents to 77.6 yards on the ground per game, ranking second in the conference. Bowdoin leads the NESCAC in time of possession, averaging 34:30 per game this year.
Â
RECORD BOOK UPDATE
With five touchdown receptions in the last three games, tight end
Brendan King broke the program's single-season record with eight touchdown receptions this season. Tailback
Andre Eden has rushed for 237 yards in the last three games, and surpassed 2,000 yards for his career last week, becoming just the seventh running back in program history to reach that plateau. Receiver
Colton Fahey, who ranks second in the NESCAC in receiving yards this season, enters Saturday's game with 1,895 career yards and 14 touchdowns. He is 23 yards shy of Pat Noone's career receiving mark and one touchdown short of tying Jim MacAllen for career touchdown catches.
Â
SCOUTING THE MULES
Despite suffering a few blowout losses this season, the Mules have been good in close games, going 3-1 in contests decided by one score or less. Colby ranks ninth in the league in total offense (244.6 yards/game) and sixth in total defense (335.4 yards/game). Individually, Julian Young leads the NESCAC in tackles this season, averaging 11.5 per game.
Â
LAST MEETING
Last year in Brunswick,
Robbie Long scored on a fourth-and-goal with 5:36 to go as the Polar Bears came away with a
21-14 win at Whittier Field.
Chris Althoff wrapped up the victory with a late game-clinching interception on Colby's final drive.
Â
BOWDOIN vs. COLBY – ALL-TIME
At 133 meetings, the Bowdoin-Colby game dates back to 1892 and is the third-longest rivalry in Division III football, standing behind only Williams-Amherst (135) and Kalamazoo-Albion (134). The Polar Bears won eight straight to open the series history from 1892-1896 and hold a 71-53-9 overall edge. Bowdoin snapped a five-game Colby winning streak last season and is looking for its first win in Waterville since 2010.
