LAST WEEK
After starting the season with a 2-0 mark thanks to a pair of authoritative wins over Hamilton and Williams, Bowdoin lost a one-score game at Middlebury and a 24-10 decision in a torrential downpour last Saturday night to Tufts. Bates is 0-4 on the year and is coming off a pair of close home losses to Colby (30-24) and Amherst (17-7) the last two weeks.

POLAR BEAR LEADERS
Andrew Boel leads the NESCAC in passing as we near the midway point of the season, racking up 1,133 yards through the air. Colton Fahey is third in the conference in receiving (96.5 yards/game) and is tenth in the league in receptions (19). Andre Eden is sixth in the NESCAC in rushing (227 yards). Defensively, Max Jacobs is among the league leaders in tackles (7.8/game), is third in the league with 4.5 sacks, and is second in the NESCAC in tackles for loss (8.5). Bowdoin is fourth in the NESCAC in total offense (377.3 yards/game) and is fifth in scoring (20.8 points/game). Defensively, the Polar Bears rank fifth in yardage (325.3 yards/game) and third in scoring (17.5 points/game). Bowdoin leads the NESCAC in time of possession this year, averaging 34:08 per contest.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
The Bobcats are seventh in the NESCAC in yards gained (271.8/game) and ninth in total defense (375.8 yards/game). Offensively, the Bobcats are averaging 16.0 points per game (sixth in NESCAC) and allowing 28.3 points per game (tenth in NESCAC). Colton Bosselait has thrown for 786 yards this season, with the bulk of it going to receiver Sergio Beltran, who ranks third in the NESCAC with 27 catches and 311 yards. Bates is second in the conference in third-down conversions through four contests, trailing only Trinity with a 43.9% (25-57) and are also the least penalized team in the league (31.0 yards/game).

LAST MEETING
Last year in Lewiston, the Bobcats used a pair of big plays and held off a late Bowdoin rally to take a 21-14 win at Garcelon Field.

CBB UPDATE
Saturday marks the second leg of the CBB Championship, the annual Maine State Series between Bowdoin, Bates, and Colby. Bates is 0-1 after losing to Colby on September 30 (30-24), so the best it can hope for is a second-straight three-way tie between the schools. Bowdoin is looking for its first CBB crown since 2010 and plays at Colby to end the season on November 11.

BOWDOIN vs. BATES – ALL-TIME
The Bowdoin-Bates game is the 10th-longest rivalry in Division III, dating back to 1889 (a 62-0 Bowdoin win). The Polar Bears hold a 67-50-7 edge in the all-time series. Bates has won ten of the last 11 meetings between the teams, however, with Bowdoin's last win coming at Whittier Field in 2018.
