BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College cross country teams both placed fifth in their respective races at the 2022 NCAA Division III East Regional hosted at Pickard Field on Saturday.
Bowdoin had four athletes earn All-Region status as
Leila Trummel (22:30.9) took fifth and
Stephanie Chun (23:03.0) placed 15
th in the women's 6k while
Will Goddard (25:31.5) was sixth and
Brooks Peters (26:07.9) 21
st in the men's 8k. All four earned qualification for the NCAA Championship in
final selections announced on Sunday.
MIT swept both the men's and women's championships while Bates' Jillian Richardson won the women's individual race (21:41.1) and Colby's Tyler Morris (24:55.6) claimed the men's.
Bowdoin Highlights
- Both teams improved one spot from last year's performance at regionals, with the men's team exceeding their national ranking coming into the meet, defeating WPI by three points.
- In addition to Trummel and Goddard's top-ten performances, both Chun and Peters made big, final kicks in the homestretch of their respective races to grab final NCAA qualifying spots.
- For the Polar Bear women, Lex Davis (48th, 23:52.4), Claire Wyman (50th, 23:53.4) and Abby Mueller (54th, 24:05.6) ran strong races in rainy, difficult conditions for the women's race, which featured 245 runners.
- The weather cleared, but the course was muddy for the men's race as Bowdoin had excellent showings from Ben Bockmann (44th, 27:18.3), John Auer (48th, 27:25.3) and Sam Angevine (51st, 27:29.1) among 242 compeitiors.
