BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team split a high scoring doubleheader with Colby on Sunday afternoon, beginning the day with a 7-5 loss before turning around a 15-10 victory.
The Polar Bears climb to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The Mules are 4-8 overall with a 2-5 NESCAC East record.
Game One Highlights
- Angelina Mayers gave Bowdoin the early lead in the second, sending a solo shot over the left center fence.
- Colby tied the game with its next at bat. Chloe Wilcox hit a long sacrifice fly to center, driving in Jackie Hill from third.
- Kasey Cunningham regained the lead for Bowdoin in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI single to left.
- Again, the Mules responded, this time with a five-run fourth. Olivia Menyo hit a bases loaded double down the left field line to clear the runners and get things started. Menyo later scored on an error.
- Bowdoin chipped away with a run in the fifth, but Wilcox plated another for Colby in the sixth.
- Natasha Fingar looked to spark a Polar Bear rally in the seventh, tagging a two-run single to center, but Bowdoin couldn't close the gap any further.
- Payton Crawley pitched 6.1 innings to earn the win with four walks and six strikeouts. Sam Ahlhom earned the save, closing out the seventh with a strikeout and flyout.
- Ruby Siltanen pitched a complete game, striking out five with no walks.
Game Two Highlights
- Bowdoin plated four runs to open game two. Maddie Rouhana and Andrea Dorsa both had RBI singles. Siltanen added a two-run single.
- Brenna Forbes chipped a bases loaded shot to short, driving in the runner from third in the top of the second. Jackie Hill doubled the Mules' run tally with an RBI single.
- The Polar Bears erupted for eight runs in the second to take a commanding 12-2 lead. Fingar and Mayers hit back-to-back RBI singles. Siltanen drove in Rouhana with a sacrifice fly to center.
- Following a pitching change for the Mules, Dorsa kept Bowdoin rolling with an RBI single to right.
- Lilly Armstrong's first career homer was memorable, as the sophomore tagged a grand slam to center.
- Colby rallied with two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
- The Mules pulled within two in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on costly errors by Bowdoin.
- Bowdoin gave itself some breathing room with a three-run sixth. Fingar, Mayers, and Katelyn Cox all tallied RBI singles.
- Abby Allen earned her first win of the season in the circle with four innings of work. Siltanen notched the save.
