Swimming and Diving Splits in Dual Meet Against MIT and WPI

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2021-22 season with a split result in a dual meet against MIT and WPI.
 
Both the men and women defeated WPI and lost to MIT in head-to-head action. The men topped WPI 167-127 and dropped 203-77 against MIT. The women won 194-103 and suffered a 216-82 setback.
 
Men's Meet Highlights
  • Bowdoin's 200 medley relay came in second to open the day as Ted Mebust, Alex Grand'Pierre, Penn Lee, and Jackson Scott combined for a 1:33.94.
  • Lee, Mebust, Coleman Komishane, and Ethan O'Connor picked up second in the 400 free relay to conclude the meet.
  • Justin Yang picked up a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 52.57. Yang also finished second in the 200 backstroke (1:56.41).
  • Grand'Pierre had hist first collegiate victory with a top finish in the 100 breaststroke (56.98). Grand'Pierre picked up a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:04.82.
  • Mebust secured the top spot in the 50 free with a time of 21.25 and a third palce finish in the 100 free (47.17).
  • Komishane earned third in the 500 free (4:56.42).
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • Bowdoin's 200 medley relay team, comprised of Ella Martin, Emilie Grand'Pierre, Tatum Zupnik, and Ella Riccio finished third to start the meet.
  • Zupnik, Riccio, Ella Martin, and Kate Fosburgh were third in the 400 free relay (3:37.19).
  • Kathleen Kemp earned a second place finish in the 1000 free (11:10.49). Teammate Kate Moynihan followed up with a time of 11:18.65
  • Anna Roberts and Grand'Pierre went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke, turning in times of 1:07.23 and 1:08.86 respectively.
  • Riccio had her first collegiate win in the 50 free, out-touching the competition with a time of 24.18. Zupnik was third in the event (24.43).
  • Zupnik and Riccio finished in the top two spots in the 100 free with times of 53.60 and 53.88. The win was Zupnik's first career top-finish.
  • Roberts finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.43).
