BRUNSWICK, Maine – On the day of their NCAA Tournament opener on Wednesday, the Bowdoin College Field Hockey team was recognized with four selections in New England Small College Athletic Conference honors.
Bowdoin placed three on the NESCAC's First Team, the most of any team in the conference, as goalkeeper
Maddie Ferrucci (Essex, Conn.), defender Georgia Coetzer (Johannesburg, South Africa) and
Faith Jennings (Ghent, N.Y.) earned first team nods. Midfielder
Abby Bashaw (West Newbury, Mass.) was named as a Second Team All-NESCAC choice.
Maddie Ferrucci repeats as a First Team selection following another fantastic season in goal for the Polar Bears. Her 70 saves ranked among the league's best, as did her 1.20 goals-against-average and .805 save percentage in the regular season for Bowdoin.
Defender
Georgie Coetzer also contributed greatly to Bowdoin's defensive prowess, helping steady the backline to a team GAA of 1.05 on the year, including eight shutouts as a team. She also contributed on Bowdoin's penalty corners, adding three goals and three assists to help grab her first postseason honor.
Faith Jennings enjoyed a breakout campaign up front for Bowdoin, leading the team and ranking among the conference leaders with 17 goals and seven assists on the season. She posted a pair of hat tricks, both in NESCAC matches against Wesleyan and Conn. College, and had a trio of game-winning-goals to earn her first postseason award as well.
Abby Bashaw rounds out the Bowdoin honorees with a Second Team All-NESCAC selection for the second time in her career. Bashaw was the Polar Bears' anchor in the midfield, contributing on both ends of the field and finishing the season with a goal and a tie for the team lead with seven assists.
The Polar Bears (14-4) will host Eastern Connecticut State University in an NCAA Tournament First Round match at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
