LAST WEEK
Bowdoin broke its 14-game losing streak with an impressive 21-14 win over Amherst, their first win against the Mammoths since the 2005 season. Tufts remained the lone winless team in the conference with a 36-35 setback to Wesleyan.Â
ABOUT THE POLAR BEARS
Andrew Boel continued his torrid start as starting quarterback for the Polar Bears, throwing for 307 yards and three touchdowns in his second career start against Amherst. He is the first Bowdoin QB to throw for 300 yards in consecutive games since Oliver Kell in 2009 and currently ranks third in the league in completion percentage (69.3) and efficiency (188.7). The Polar Bears also boast the top rusher in the league in
Andre Eden (100.4 yards/game) and the fifth-leading receiver in
Colton Fahey (76.6 yards/game, 5 TDs). Against Amherst last Saturday, Bowdoin had a 300-yard passer (Boel), a 100-yard rusher (Eden), and a 100-yard receiver (Fahey) in the same game for the first time since Nov. 5, 2005 against Bates (Ricky Leclerc/Matt Boyd/Jeff Nolin). Defensively, Bowdoin has risen to sixth in the league in total defense (369.8 yards/game) and
Drew Ortiz leads the NESCAC with 8.0 tackles for loss this fall.Â
SCOUTING THE JUMBOS
Despite being winless at 0-5, the Jumbos have been competitive in nearly every game this season, losing three games by a field goal or less. Last week against Wesleyan, Tufts led 35-29 heading into the fourth quarter before a late Cardinal TD delivered a 36-35 loss to the Jumbos. Quarterback Michael Berluti is a dual threat, having passed for 300 yards and rushed for 100 against the Cardinals. His top target is Philip Lutz, who stands third in the NESCAC at 108.8 yards receiving/game. Tufts' offense ranks third in the league in total yards (432.8/game) but their defense ranks last, permitting 427.0 yards/game and a league-high 33.4 points/game.Â

BOWDOIN vs. TUFTS - ALL TIME
Saturday will be the 115th meeting between the teams with Tufts holding a 63-49-2 advantage in the all-time series. Tufts has won the last five meetings after Bowdoin claimed five in a row from 2010-14. The most noteworthy matchup in recent memory came in 2011, when Bowdoin became the first team in NCAA football history to return two 99+ yard interceptions for a touchdown in the same game. Bowdoin's Joey Cleary (99) and Griffin Cardew (100) were featured on ESPN, NBC Sports and Sports Illustrated for the feat.
