Women's Rugby Returns to Action With Road Win at Vassar

The Brewers capitalized on early mistakes and took a 5-0 lead a few minutes into the match. Bowdoin regained possession and Molly Petronzio scored the first of her two tries, leveling the score at 5-5.
Ten minutes later as Vassar threatened again, the Polar Bears forced a turnover and Sage Kashner kicked a high ball downfield, perfectly caught by winger Petronzio, who outpaced two more defenders for her second try. Taking her own conversion kick, the score went to 12-5 into halftime.
Two more converted tries and a strong defensive effort from all the Polar Bears in the second half kept the victory in sight. Centers Rebecca Vakarau and Jess Yang added a try each off good footwork and service from flyhalf Catherine Patti, with Petronzio converting both.
Vassar scored between the two, but missed the kick, pulling the score to 19-10, then added a final try after Yang's, bringing the final score to 26-17.
Captain Ashlynn Autrey led the defensive effort with 17 tackles, Patti added 15, and Cassie Allgeier, Sadie McClean and Vakarau added ten tackles each.
