Records Fall at NESCAC Championship Opening Day for Women's Swimming and Diving

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin women's swimming and diving team set multiple school records and made several NCAA B cut times in the opening day of the NESCAC Championship.

After one full day of competition, the Polar Bears sit comfortably in fifth with 429 points.

Meet Highlights

  • In Thursday's NESCAC opening session, the 800 free relay set a new school record to earn fifth place overall. Cassandra Maroney, Nadia Eguchi, Erin Moody, and Kate Fosburgh finished in 7:36.68 to set the tone for the weekend.
  • On the first full day of action, Bowdoin's 200 free A relay finished fourth with an NCAA B cut time of 1:34.75. Mary Laurita, Marshall Lowery, Amanda Banasiak, and Maroney combined for the relay. Bowdoin's B relay finished 15th to score points for the Polar Bears, comprised of Emilie Grand'Pierre, Anna Roberts, Eguchi, and Jess Gearan.
  • Multiple school records feel in Friday morning's prelims. Laurita set a new mark in the 50 fly (24.92) and ended the day with a third place finish in the finals (25.05). Ayana Opong-Nyantekyi swam a 25.98 in the consolation final, earning a 13th place finish. Ellie Wargo picked up more points for the Polar Bears with a 22nd place time.
  • Lowery set a new record in the 50 backstroke (26.30) during the morning session and shattered her own school record in the finals, winning the 50 backstroke with a time of 25.68. In the same event, Francesca Garces was 11th and Carly Dickson 21st.
  • Roberts made a statement in her first NESCAC post-season appearance, swimming an NCAA B cut time in the 200 IM (2:05.67). The first-year lowered her time (2:05.52) in the evening for a third place finish overall.
  • In her first NESCAC post-season, Grand-Pierre landed a seventh place finish in the 50 breaststroke finals (29.96). Emily Jacobs and Audrey Aitelli earned points in the race's preconsolation final.
  • Eguchi and Fosburgh earned points in the evening's action, finishing 16th and 22nd respectively, in the 500 free.
  • Banasiak lowered her time from the morning's prelim in the 50 free, finishing third in the final (23.90). Maroney finished third in the consolation final, good for 11th overall, in the same event.
  • Thea Kelsey qualified for the evening's 1-meter diving finals with a morning score of 396.10. Kelsey placed seventh overall in the final with a score of 419.05.
  • The 400 medley relay wrapped up the evening with another school record and NCAA B cut time, put together by Lowery, Roberts, Laurita, and Fosburgh.
