GORHAM, Maine – The Southern Maine baseball team rode a five-run first inning to a tight 6-4 win over Bowdoin on Wednesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears fall to 0-14-1, while the Huskies climb to 13-3.

Game Highlights

• Bowdoin plated a run in the top of the first. Gavin Cann doubled to right field and drove in Eric Mah.
• Southern Maine exploded for five of its six runs in the game, in the bottom of the first. Dylan Hapworth put the Huskies on the board with a sacrifice fly to right. Devin Warren followed up with a two-run triple to right center.
• The Huskies scored two more runs, one off a groundout, and another off Anthony Degifico's RBI single through the right side.
• Brendan O'Neil jacked a solo homerun to right in the fourth, cutting the score to 5-2.
• USM pushed another run across the plate in the fifth on a fielder's choice.
• Bowdoin continued to climb back into the game with two more runs in the sixth. Chris Attisani tagged an RBI double to right center and Colby Joncas drove in Cann with a groundout to second.

By the Numbers

• Bowdoin outhit the Huskies by an 11-9 margin.
• Eric Mah paced the Polar Bears by going 3-for-4. Hapworth went 2-for-3 for the Huskies.
• Nick Merrill, Cann, Attisani, and Connor Lee all had doubles.
• Beckett Slayton suffered the loss after giving up five runs in one inning on the mound. Seamus Keenan was the only Bowdoin pitcher with multiple strikeouts, fanning two.
• James Sinclair pitched 5.1 innings for the Huskies with seven hits allowed and one strikeout.
