Dixon Wins 200 IM at First Full Day of NESCAC Swimming and Diving Championship

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Sterling Dixon won the 200 IM to headline the opening day of NESCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championship action for Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears set three school records in the first three sessions of action. At the end of Friday night the team sits in 7th place with 360 points.  

Day One Highlights

  • On Thursday night the Bowdoin A relay of Kate Fosburgh, Nadia Eguchi, Jess Gearan, and Sterling Dixon finished seventh with a new school record and NCAA B cut time of 7:36.72.
  • Friday morning the Polar Bears came back and set two more school records. ​
  • In the prelims of the 50 fly sophomore Mary Laurita posted a 24.99 to break her own school record. In finals she finished fifth in a time of 25.32. Ellie Wargo touched 17th with a 26.16.
  • Senior Sterling Dixon raced to a time of 2:03.79 in the 200 IM to take the top seed. At night she went even faster, posting a 2:02.65 to win the NESCAC title by .04. That time was a school record, and NCAA B cut. Classmate Ally Fromson-Ho placed 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.82.
  • On the boards senior Rebecca Stern earned an NCAA Regionals qualifying score of 405.55 points en route to a third place finish. Junior Thea Kelsey was also in the top eight, scoring 374.05 points to finish sixth. 
  • In the 50 backstroke junior Marshall Lowery touched sixth in a time of 26.63. Cecilia Dehavenon touched 15th (27.64) and Jess Gearan was 24th (28.40).
  • Junior Amanda Banasiak placed fifth in the 50 free with a 24.05.
  • The 200 freestyle relay of Laurita, Lowery, Gearan, and Banasiak finished sixth overall in 1:36.28.
  • Audrey Aitelli was 24th in the 50 breaststroke in 32.16. Fosburgh added 20th place points with a 5:05.36 500 freestyle.
  • The 400 medley relay of Lowery, Dixon, Laurita, and Banasiak wrapped up Friday night with another NCAA B cut performance as the team touched in 3:50.85 to finish sixth.
