Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst men's hockey team rode a four goal second period to a 6-3 victory over Bowdoin on Friday evening.
The Mammoths improve to 4-4-2 (2-2-2 NESCAC), while the Polar Bears drop to 4-5-1 (2-3-1 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Amherst struck 31 seconds into the second frame. Sean Wrenn wrapped around the net and put a shot on pads, with Noah Gilreath putting back the rebound.
- Bowdoin tied the game three minutes later as Cody Todesco forced a turnover behind the net and fed Chris Wallace alone in front of the goalie. Wallace slipped a wrister inside the left post.
- With a 5-on-3 advantage, Phil Johansson put a one-timer past Kyle St. Denis.
- Todesco tied the game with 7:42 remaining in the period after receiving a feed from Michael Brown at the blue line for a breakaway.
- Amherst scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the second period to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission.
- Joey Lupo scored 1:36 into the final frame to extend Amherst's lead with a one-touch rebound goal. A wraparound shot from Pieter von Stenberg made it 6-2 in favor of the Mammoths.
- Christian Capello scored the game's final goal with 6:21 remaining off a solo effort and wrister to the bottom right corner.
