CLINTON, N.Y. – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team saw its NESCAC run come to an end in a 3-2 overtime loss to Middlebury on Saturday evening.
The Polar Bears earned the number two seed in the conference playoffs and sport an 18-7-1 overall record. The fourth-seeded Panthers (15-8-3) advance to play sixth-seeded Williams in a double-upset NESCAC Final.
Game Highlights
- After killing off a Bowdoin power play, Middlebury pinned the Polar Bears in their own zone midway through the second. Bobby May fired a one-timer from the high slot only to be denied by Jacob Osborne.
- Bowdoin broke through at 11:40 in the frame to take a 1-0 lead. Louie Marcellino received a pass from Bryce Bollman coming into the zone. Marcellino wrapped around the Hamilton net and made a quick pass to the top of the crease for a one-timer by Bollman.
- The Panthers found an equalizer four minutes later. After pressure in the Bowdoin zone, Michael Fairfax picked the puck off the left boards and skated toward net. Fairfax dished right to Reece Brednich for a quick far post finish.
- Middlebury took its first lead of the game at 9:30 in the third. John Halverson set up the play with a feed from the right corner to James Schneid at center for a one-timer.
- Bowdoin pulled Jacob Osborne in the final two minutes and converted with the extra skater and 1:27 remaining in regulation. Pierre Larocque skated down the right boards, threw on the brakes, and passed left to Daniel Menyalkin. Menyalkin skated down the slot right of center and connected with the pass, sending to the far post.
- Six minutes into overtime, Landon Brownlee earned a breakaway but was stonewalled by Osborne.
- Middlebury scored with 8:41 remaining in the first overtime period to advance to the NESCAC Finals. Revy Mack skated the puck down the left side and passed right to Cole Semeniuk. Semeniuk took a couple of strides before burying the puck top shelf.
