Balanced Attack Leads Women's Hoops Over Hamilton

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team had four players in double figures in a 85-51 win over Hamilton on Friday night at Morrell Gymnasium.

The top-ranked Polar Bears improve to 18-0 (5-0 NESCAC) in advance of Saturday's showdown with fourth-ranked Amherst. The Continentals drop to 10-6 (0-4 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin never trailed, but the teams traded early baskets until an 11-0 Polar Bear run, capped by a layup from Samantha Roy, gave the hosts an 18-6 edge.
  • The Polar Bears maintained an eight-point lead heading into the second quarter thanks to a six-point flurry by Cordelia Stewart, 24-16.
  • Bowdoin took complete command in the second stanza, outscoring Hamilton 23-8 to take a 47-24 edge at the break.
  • The Polar Bears shot 52% from the field in the period, out-rebounded Hamilton 13-5 and got six points from Taylor Choate to put the game out of reach without taking a free throw in the quarter.
  • Bowdoin extended their lead to as many as 37 points in the second half on their way to the win.

By The Numbers

  • Samantha Roy had a game-high 15 points to go with three assists while Maddie Hasson added 12 points and seven rebounds.
  • Taylor Choate had 10 points, four steals, five assists and four rebounds for Bowdoin, who also got 12 points and five rebounds off the bench from Annie Boasberg.
  • Hamilton was led by 11 points from Kelcie Zarle.
  • Bowdoin connected on 47% from the field and held Hamilton to just 30% while owning a 48-30 rebounding advantage.
  • The Polar Bears scored 23 points off Hamilton turnovers and scored 12 second-chance points in the victory.
