BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team saw its season come to an end in a 67-59 loss to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday night in Morrell Gymnasium.
The Huskies (27-2), who went 23-25 from the free throw line, advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2007. The Polar Bears end their year with a record of 25-3.
Game Highlights
- USM shot lights out in the first half, knocking down six three-pointers and led by as many as nine in the second quarter before Bowdoin closed the gap heading into the break.
- Three-pointers by Rachel Storey and Carly Davey trimmed the lead to 37-34 at intermission.
- The second half saw Bowdoin come within a single point on four occasions, and took nine shots that could've regained the lead, but could not draw even or go ahead.
- The last time was following a Melissa Leone three-pointer with 4:06 to go that made it 54-53 USM.
- The Huskies answered with a three-pointer and Bowdoin would not get that close again as USM went 12-13 from the line in the fourth quarter.

- USM shot 40% from the game and Bowdoin connected on 37% with the main point differential coming via free throws (23-8 in favor of USM).
- Abbie Quinn went 9-12 from the field, finishing with 20 points and six boards while Maria Belardi was outstanding in the final game of her career, ending with 15 points and three steals.
- Grace Kinum had ten points, nine boards, and four steals for Bowdoin.
- Bowdoin was called for 22 fouls in the game compared to 10 for USM.
- The win was the first for USM against Bowdoin since 2012.
- Bowdoin ends its season with 25 wins, giving the five-member senior class of Maria Belardi, Carley Davey, Starlette Franklin, Rachel Storey, and Maddie Wilkin 97 wins in their careers with two NESCAC Championships and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
