Women's Tennis Picks Up NESCAC Victory in California

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Bowdoin women's tennis team picked up its first NESCAC victory of the season in a 9-0 shutout against Trinity before falling 7-2 to Carnegie Mellon.

The fifth-ranked Polar Bears sit at 3-1 after two days of action in California. Carnegie Mellon is 12-2, while Trinity is 1-1.

Trinity Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin swept doubles play, dropping only four sets between the three pairings. Rachel Bercovitch and Tasha Christ combined for an 8-1 victory at number two, as did Sasa Jovanovic and Viv Daniel at no. 3. Tess Trinka and Izzy Essi picked up an 8-2 win at the top spot.
  • Trinka and Daniel both pinned 6-1, 6-1 setbacks on Trinity at numbers one and five respectively.
  • Christ and Bercovitch each had a 6-3. 6-2 victory at two and three.
  • Jovanovic went 6-1, 6-0 in the six spot.
  • Essi captured a first set victory (7-6), before dropping the second (6-2), and winning the tiebreaker 10-2.

Carnegie Mellon Match Highlights

  • Trinka and Essi earned a point for the Polar Bears in doubles play with an 8-4 win at number one.
  • Jovanovic and Daniel lost a tight match at number three.
  • Jovanovic picked up another point for Bowdoin in singles play, earning a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
