GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the comeback and pin an 8-7 setback on Bowdoin on Tuesday night.

The Polar Bears (14-17) carried a 7-4 lead into the seventh inning before the Huskies (26-8) erased the deficit.

Game Highlights

• Sawyer Billings put Bowdoin on the board in the top of the first, tagging a double to center that drove in Eric Mah. Ejazz Jiu followed up with an RBI groundout to short, giving the Polar Bears a 2-0 lead.
• The Huskies responded in the bottom half of the inning with Zach Quintal scoring on a wild pitch. The hosts took the lead in the second. Devin Warren and Kyle Heath each drove in a run.
• Bowdoin erupted for five runs in its following at bat, stretching the lead to 7-3. Evann Dumont-LaPointe hit a two-run homer to left and Joe Gentile drove in two more with a double to right center. Gentile eventually scored on an error.
• Southern Maine scored the final five runs of the game to complete the comeback. Only one of the Huskies five runs was driven in by a base hit. The remainder of the team's runs came from walks, groundouts, and a wild pitch.

By the Numbers

• Both teams went deep into the bullpen. Southern Maine saw six different pitchers take the mound, while four Bowdoin pitchers put in time. Bowdoin combined for six strikeouts, three from Jack Wilhoite, and Jack Donnelly led USM with four Ks. Donnelly surrendered six runs in 2.1 innings of work.
• Billings, Jiu, and Gentile all tallied doubles and Billings added a triple. Dumont-LaPointe had the game's lone homerun.
• Billings went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two walks. Warren paced the Huskies, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
