Men's Tennis Storms Back to Edge Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team rallied from a deficit following doubles play to edge Amherst, 5-4, in a match between nationally-ranked foes Saturday in Massachusetts.

The third-ranked Polar Bears improve to 10-1 on the season while the 14th-ranked Mammoths fall to 12-3 this year.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin trailed 2-1 following doubles action as Gil Roddy/Justin Patel claimed the lone point for the Polar Bears with a tiebreaker win 9-8 at #3 doubles. The two other Polar Bear teams lost by 8-6 and 9-8 scores.
  • The Polar Bears rallied in singles play, drawing closer to Amherst with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win from Luke Carstens at #6 and 6-4, 6-1 win from Kyle Wolfe at #3.
  • Gil Roddy captured a victory at #5 singles, 7-6, 6-4 but the Mammoths drew even and the score was tied at 4-4, leaving just Luke Tercek on the court at #1 singles for Bowdoin.
  • After dropping the first set, Tercek rallied to win a tiebreaker in the second set and pulled away impressively for a 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 win and give the victory to the Polar Bears.
