Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – Brandon Lopez pitched a complete nine inning game to carry the Bowdoin baseball team to a 3-1 win against Trinity on Friday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (8-12, 1-3 NESCAC) picked up their first league win of the season, while dropping the Bantams to 12-10 (3-4 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin broke through in the bottom of the third. With Ejazz Jiu standing at second, Lopez chopped a single through the right side that allowed the run to score.
- After several quick at-bats from both sides, the Polar Bear offense came alive in the seventh to add to the 1-0 lead. Back-to-back errors by the Bantams put runners on first and second, giving Jiu a chance to drive in Bjorn Hansen from second with an RBI single to left center. Lopez immediately followed with a run producing single to right center.
- Trinity avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the eighth. Ryan Vultaggio hit a one out double to left and came around to score as Alex Rodriguez tagged a single to left.
- With only one out on the board and a runner on second, Lopez forced a popup and strikeout to escape the inning.
By the Numbers
- Lopez and Evann Dumont-LaPointe recorded doubles for the Polar Beras while Vultaggio had the lone extra base hit for Trinity.
- Ben Reinisch was the only Bantam batter to collect a pair of hits in the game, going 2-for-4. Lopez paced the Polar Bears, going 3-for-4 at the plate.
- Erik Mohl suffered his first loss of the season on the mound (6-1), allowing seven hits and three runs. Mohl struck out five in 6.1 innings of work.
- Lopez (3-0) pitched all nine innings for Bowdoin. The sophomore allowed four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
