Claremont Mounts Stunning Rally In Men's Tennis Win Over Bowdoin

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The sixth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team rallied from a huge deficit to stun second-ranked Bowdoin on Wednesday afternoon in the finals of the Stag-Hen Invitational.

The Polar Bears suffer their first loss since the NESCAC Championship match last May and drop to 4-1 this season.

Match Highlights

  • The Polar Bears appeared to be in command following a dominating doubles performance that saw them take a 3-0 overall lead.
  • The teams of Kyle Wolfe/Jerry Jiang and Gil Roddy/Justin Patel both took 8-4 wins and the top doubles pairing of Luke Tercek/Grant Urken recorded an 8-6 victory to put Bowdoin on top early.
  • Needing wins in five of six singles matches, Claremont pulled off the improbable, winning a quartet of three-setters to take the comeback win. Wolfe was the lone Bowdoin winner, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory at #3 singles.

Up Next

  • The Polar Bears will open their conference schedule on Thursday when they play Trinity at noon in Claremont.
