POMONA, Calif. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team won a pair of matches against top-ten teams on Tuesday on the opening day of the Stag-Hen Invitational hosted by Pomona-Pitzer.

The second-ranked Polar Bears defeated eight-ranked Whitman 7-2 before defeating ninth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer 6-3.

Whitman Highlights

• Bowdoin took a commanding 3-0 lead in doubles play against Whitman. Kyle Wolfe/Jerry Jiang (8-3) and Gil Roddy/Justin Patel (8-6) earned two quick points before Luke Tercek/Grant Urken claimed a 9-8 battle at number one singles.
• The Polar Bears won four of six singles matches, including straight-set wins from Kyle Wolfe (6-1, 6-3), Jerry Jiang (6-3, 6-4) and Gil Roddy (6-1, 6-2). Luke Tercek claimed a three-setter (3-6, 6-2, 6-4)

Pomona Highlights

• Tercek/Urken (8-5) and Roddy/Patel (8-3) earned doubles wins to give Bowdoin a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
• Bowdoin's singles depth proved to be the difference, as the Polar Bears claimed four of six singles matches again to seal the victory.
• Straight-set wins from Urken (6-1, 6-2), Jiang (6-3, 6-3), Roddy (6-0, 6-0) and Luke Carstens (7-5, 6-4) clinched the win for Bowdoin.
