Continentals Sink Polar Bears with Third Period Goals

Box Score
BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Hamilton men's hockey team used a pair of third period goals to break open a deadlocked matchup and down Bowdoin 3-1 on Saturday night.

The Continentals leave Maine with a 13-3-4 (7-3-4 NESCAC) record after splitting the weekend road trip. Third period goals tripped up the Polar Bears who fall to 8-12-0 (5-9-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Truman Landowski streaked down the left boards, with Tyler Bruneteau matching him down the middle, to set up the game's first goal. Landowski fired a hard shot towards Peter Cronin that the goalie kicked into the slot. Bruneteau collected the puck in stride and put back the open rebound at 6:58.
  • Bowdoin looked to even the game at the midway point of the period as Matthew Lison's wrister floated up on Evan Buitenhuis and hit him at an awkward angle. Buitenhuis poked the puck out of trouble to prevent a play on the rebound.
  • Chris Wallace evened the game for Bowdoin during four on four action three minutes into the second frame. Wallace scooped the puck up at the top of the left circle and flipped a quick shot past Buitenhuis for the equalizer.
  • With five minutes remaining in the period, Hamilton forced the Polar Bear defense to scramble. Brad Smelstor capped the flurry of activity with an open look skating around the left post. As he was about to deposit the puck, Sam Topham slid in from behind to make a defensive save and deny Smelstor.
  • Neil Conway converted on a beautiful feed from Brandon Willett to give the Continentals their second lead of the day. With 3:29 ticked off the clock in the third, Willett spun around and slid a backhanded pass to Conway feet away on the opposite post. Conway put away the open shot to Cronin's glove side as the goalie was still on his angle to face Willett.
  • The Continentals scored three minutes later as Richard Court tipped a shot from Jon Carkeek. Carkeek 's shot from the right point soared into traffic in front of the net where Court got his blade on the puck.
