Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team never trailed in a 3-1 home win over visiting Amherst on Friday evening.
The Polar Bears (8-11-0, 5-8-0 NESCAC) snap a three game losing streak by toppling one of the top teams in the conference. Amherst (11-4-3, 6-4-3 NESCAC) boasts the second stingiest defense in the league.
Game Highlights
- Amherst held a slight edge in shots in the opening frame, including a promising power play opportunity midway through the period. Patrick Mooney set up inside Bowdoin's line and slid a pass right to Phil Johansson atop the right circle. Johansson fired a slapshot on net that Peter Cronin turned away.
- Bradley Potter put together several chances in the latter half of the period. The sophomore took a quick shot as the final 20 seconds ticked away, but the rebound kicked out untouched into the low slot.
- Bowdoin jumped out to a 1-0 lead off a bouncing puck tally by Cody Todesco 8:14 into the second period. Chris Wallace and Austin Ricci set up the play, peppering Connor Girard with shots, before the puck popped out to Todesco for the put back.
- With 4:25 remaining in the period, Amherst tied the game at 1-1. Max Roche found Austin Ho on the low side of the right circle. Roche fed Ho from the near side behind the net, with Ho firing off a quick shot.
- Mitch Barrington gave Bowdoin its second lead of the night 7:05 into the third. Christian Capello teed up a shot from the left point that was turned away by Girard. The rebound kicked out between the circles where Barrington skated in and roofed a shot to go ahead 2-1.
- Two minutes later, Todesco added to Bowdoin's tally. Matthew Lison beat a defender down the left boards, carrying deep towards the corner, and found Todesco with a long flat cross. Todesco connected with the incoming puck on the far post and tipped in his second of the day.

- Bowdoin held a slight 25-24 edge in shots.
- Both teams were unsuccessful on the power player. The Polar Bears were 0-for-3 and Amherst went 0-for-2.
- Cronin made 23 stops in net to earn the win for Bowdoin.
