Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team overcame a ten-point second-half deficit with a dominant fourth quarter to defeat Trinity 76-61 on Saturday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.
The 16th-ranked Polar Bears (13-3, 3-2 NESCAC) held the Bantams (11-5, 2-3 NESCAC) scoreless for the final 6:45 to seal their 19th win in last 20 games against Trinity.
Game Highlights
- Trinity was red hot in the first twenty minutes, connecting on 58% from the field in the opening half to take a 37-32 advantage at the break.
- The Bantams scored the first five points of the second half courtesy of an Erin Cunningham layup and then a three-pointer to take their largest lead of the game, 42-32, with 8:30 left in the third quarter.
- The Polar Bears clawed back into the game thanks to eight points apiece from Lydia Caputi and Marle Curle in the third quarter and evened the score at 53 on a Curle hoop-and-harm late in the period.
- Abigail Kelly gave Bowdoin their first lead since the opening quarter with a three-pointer on Bowdoin's next possession, but Trinity was able to trim the lead to 56-55 at the end of three quarters.
- The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter and the Bantams took their final lead of the contest on a layup by Peace Kabari, 61-59, with 6:45 to go.
- Trinity would not score again, however, as the Bowdoin defense locked down the Bantams for the remainder. A Kelly jumper tied the game at 61 and Cordelia Stewart put home a nice feed from Kate Kerrigan to give the hosts a 63-61 edge with 5:18 to go.
- Bowdoin put the game on ice thanks to a three-pointer from Kerrigan and a four-point play by Taylor Choate with 1:06 to go, stretching the lead to double-digits in the final moments of the half.
By The Numbers
- Trinity cooled down only slightly in the second half and finished at 50% shooting for the game, including 6-9 from three-point range.
- The Bantams were doomed by 24 turnovers, however, compared to just 12 for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears converted the Trinity miscues into 32 points en route to the win.
- Bowdoin got a career-high 19 points from Caputi, who connected on a trio of three-pointers and had four steals.
- Kate Kerrigan ended with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks while Kelly pitched in a dozen points off the bench for Bowdoin.
- Trinity was paced by 13 from Courtney Erickson and 12 from Cunningham.
