UNE Storms Back From Behind to Best Bowdoin in Men's Hockey

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The University of New England scored four unanswered goals in the third period to rally for a 6-4 men's ice hockey win over Bowdoin College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears drop below .500 with the loss (6-7-0). The victory pushed UNE to 6-5-1.

Game Highlights

  • The Nor'Easters jumped out to an early lead just 3:38 into the contest off an even strength goal from Dmitris Jones. The score stood for under ten minutes as Thomas Dunleavy evened the game with helpers from Christian Capello and Brendan Conroy.
  • Conroy gave the Polar Bears their first lead of the game with 3:45 remaining in the period during a stretch of four-on-four action.
  • UNE tied the game 8:14 into the middle frame behind Ryan Bloom's fourth goal of the season, but Mitch Barrington responded with another Bowdoin goal three minutes later. Again, the Polar Bears converted on an open sheet of ice with a player from each team in the penalty box.
  • Cody Todesco extended the lead with a power play goal in the final 1:16 of the period. After knocking on the door all game, Todesco finished off a loose puck rebound from the scrum. The sophomore continued to push the puck on Tate Sproxton until he finally found space.
  • The Nor'Easters went on to score four unanswered goals in the final period, cutting the Polar Bears 4-2 lead in half just 46 seconds in play. Bloom quickly tallied the equalizer and Trevor Fleurent scored two more to complete the comeback.

By the Numbers

  • Erik Wurman started in net and played 29:28 minutes for the Polar Bears with 13 saves. Nathan Colannino played the remainder of the game with 17 saves. Wurman surrendered two goals and Colannino three.
  • Sproxton made 31 stops to earn the win for UNE.
  • Bowdoin went 1-for-5 on the power play while the hosts went 2-for-7.
