Men's Tennis Blanks Amherst, Advances to Sunday's NESCAC Title Match

PORTLAND, Maine - Second-seeded Bowdoin swept sixth-seeded Amherst 5-0 in the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament late on Saturday evening.

With the win, the Polar Bears (15-2) advance to face top-seeded and defending champion Middlebury (15-2) for the championship on Sunday indoors at the Portland Racquet & Fitness Center. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin, which defeated Amherst 9-0 on April 10 in Brunswick, swept Amherst (15-9) in doubles play to take an insurmountable lead
  • Luke Trinka and Luke Tercek teamed up to beat Aaron Revzin and Michael Solimano 8-4 at No. 1 while Kyle Wolfe and Jerry Jiang defeated Andrew Yaraghi and Antony Zykov 8-6 at No. 2
  • Chase Savage and Gil Roddy topped Ben Fife and Zach Bessette 8-6 to complete the doubles sweep at No. 3
  • Wolfe downed Solimano 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to give Bowdoin a 4-0 lead
  • The match was clinched at 11:14 p.m. when Jiang finished off Bessette 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, leaving four singles matches unfinished

Up Next

  • Bowdoin will look to win its second NESCAC title tomorrow against the Panthers. The Polar Bears were victorious in their only other NESCAC Championship appearance, in 2008.
