Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sam Stauble tallied seven RBIs for the University of Southern Maine en route to a 15-5 win over host Bowdoin on Tuesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (20-13) recorded two quick innings against the Huskies (26-11) before the visitors' bats came alive for five runs in the third.
Game Highlights
- Sam Dexter and Sam Stauble recorded back-to-back singles to center in the top of the third. Dexter drove in one run and Stauble a pair. Jake Glauser doubled to left center and Nick Bowle tagged another RBI single before Bowdoin could escape the inning.
- Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the third, Peter Cimini cleared the left field fence for a three-run homer. Colby Joncas cut into the Huskies lead with an RBI single to left that scored Brandon Lopez.
- Stauble tagged another two-run single to center in the following inning. Paul McDonough lofted a sacrifice fly to left that gave USM an 8-4 lead.
- Southern Maine continued to produce runs in the fifth, capitalizing on a Bowdoin error to begin the inning. Jake Dexter drove an RBI single to center and Stauble recorded another two-run single as the Huskies pushed four more runs across the plate.
- Stauble had his seventh and final RBI of the game in the seventh inning, driving in Nick Dibiase with a chop to shortstop.
- Cimini recorded his fourth RBI of the game with a single to center that allowed Joe Gentile to score from second following a leadoff double.
- The Huskies tallied two more runs in the final inning behind a double from Sam Dexter and sacrifice fly by Nick Volger.
By the Numbers
- Jack Donnelly put in a complete game on the mound for Southern Maine, allowing ten hits and five runs. Recording his fourth win of the season, Donnelly struck out seven and walked a pair.
- Richard Arms started for Bowdoin and pitched two complete innings with no hits and a pair of strikeouts. Ryan Dixon was the only other member of the Bowdoin pitching staff to deny the Huskies a run, pitching one inning with two strikeouts and a walk.
- Stable led USM by going 3-for-4 with seven RBIs and a walk.
- Gentile went 3-for-4 for the Polar Bears, scoring two runs, and drawing a walk.
