BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's tennis team avenged a regular season loss to Tufts with a 5-1 win in the NCAA Regional Final to punch a ticket to the Elite Eight.
The Polar Bears (13-6) held a 2-1 lead after doubles and won the first three singles matches to clinch the victory. Tufts (12-7) captured a 7-2 win over Bowdoin to conclude the regular season back on April 30.
Match Highlights
- Conner Calabro and Tomo Iwasaki combined for the Jumbos lone point of the day as the pair secured an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Tess Trinka and Samantha Stalder posted an 8-3 final at three to even the match at one all.
- Joulia Likhanskaia and Tiffany Cheng jumped out to a 6-3 lead at one, but Mina Karamercan and Lauren Louks took three straight games to even the score. Tied 6-6, Likhanskaia held serve to go ahead and the Polar Bears broke Tufts to clinch the 8-6 win and take a 2-1 lead.
- Kyra Silitch posted the first singles victory of the day, finishing Calabro in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at number three.
- Stalder gave Bowdoin the 4-1 lead with a win at five (7-6, 6-3). Zoe Miller came back to force a tiebreaker in the opener, but Stalder posted a 7-2 score to win the set.
- Trinka clinched the match for Bowdoin in a three-set victory at four. The sophomore opened with a 6-3 win before falling 6-2 in the second to Iwasaki. Trinka won the final set 6-3 to hand the Polar Bears the 5-1 win.
