Men's Tennis Cruises Into Regional Finals of NCAA Tournament

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team eased to a 5-0 win over Nichols in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at Pickard Courts.

The Polar Bears (16-3) advance to the Third Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. against the winner of Stevens/MIT. Bowdoin will be looking to advance to their third-ever National Quarterfinal appearance. Nichols ends a fantastic season with a record of 20-4.

Match Highlights

  •  The Polar Bears got off to a fast start, sweeping through the doubles matches. Sophomore Kyle Wolfe and freshman Jerry Jiang took care of business against 8-0, at No. 2 doubles before closing out an 8-1 win at No. 1 courtesy of Luke Tercek and Luke Trinka, 8-1.
  • Chase Savage and Gil Roddy defeated Nichols' Josh Halpern and Jake Zapatka, 8-3 at No. 3 to close out the sweep of doubles play.
  • The Polar Bears then quickly won straight sets on No. 6 and No. 5 singles to clinch the match. At No. 6 singles, freshman Grant Urken took down Aiden Stuart 6-0, 6-0 before sophomore Gil Roddy defeated Igor Markowski 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
  • Bowdoin took the first set in each of the remaining four matches that did not finish.
