Box Score 2 LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates baseball team swept Bowdoin in Saturday's NESCAC doubleheader, taking game one 6-3 and game two 9-5.
The Polar Bears (10-8, 2-4 NESCAC) surrendered five runs in the eighth inning of game two, allowing the Bobcats (9-12, 2-3 NESCAC) to come from behind and control the series.
Game One Highlights
- Bates scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Sam Warren had two RBI sacrifice flies to right field, Asher MacDonald and Sam Warren each hit RBI singles.
- Warren added another RBI single in the fourth and Brandon Fox had another in the sixth.
- Luke Cappellano drove in all three Bowdoin runs with a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh.
- Connor Speed earned the win on the mound for Bates with six innings of work and nine strikeouts.
Game Two Highlights
- Cappellano started the Bowdoin scoring in game two with an RBI single in the top of the second. Stephen Girolamo chipped a shot to shortstop and drove in Cappellano.
- Warren tagged a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to tie the game.
- Cappellano tallied a two-run double in the top of the fifth to give Bowdoin the 4-2 lead.
- Bates again tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of unearned runs, but Peter Cimini homered in the eighth to give the Polar Bears the scoring edge.
- The Bobcats responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, securing a 9-5 victory.
- All Bates runs were unearned.
